We, the Ahtna Athabascan people in the villages of Chistochina and Mentasta, Alaska are committed to the preservation of the values and knowledge of our traditional Tribal identity. Our Elders are the last remaining links to our rich heritage and we have developed a school curriculum that includes tradtional knowledge and actively engages school children with their Elders.

We are...With the help of our Elders and communities, Mount Sanford Tribal Consortium is also creating a traveling exhibition entitled "Teaching Our Many Grandchildren." The exhibit described here tells our story and celebrates our traditional lifestyle based on deep respect for the land, each other, and all the plants and animals that provide spiritual and material well being.

It shows what we are doing to preserve our culture and to restore our grandchildren's sense of self and Tribal identity. It recognizes our belief that traditional life skills and values are relevant today and that remembering our past will renew and restore our physical, emotional and spiritual health.

It is our wish that this exhibit will honor our Elders and offer a message of hope and empowerment for others as well as for our many grandchildren.
